Tech and Lyric Contest Director, Gene Schillaci was born in Houston into musical family his grandfather (trumpet) and father (dixieland jazz) both played in American legion bands. His dad played dixieland Jazz. Like his grandfather, he started on trumpet, then took piano lessons for years. He started playing in rock bands at 14, on the drums, but quickly switched to bass guitar. Then in his early 20s, he dropped out of Baylor to play in a blues band with Freddie “Little Junior One Hand”Cisneros in the Dyanne Simmons, aka Dyanne and the Dial- Tones. He played with Charlie Sexton, Charlie Helpinstil (aka Ezra Charles) in ‘80s before returning to Baylor to finish degrees in business and computer science.
